While hosting a blog (brand new) in a free hosting service, most people would suggest looking the server uptime, speed, and backup & restoring features. Yes! They are important, but still you need to look few more things..
I suggest new bloggers to lookout several factors particularly on bandwidth allocations, SSL certificate also Ads.. Because these factors determines your blog performances in search engines..
Here are the list of factors you should look when choosing a free web hosting service for hosting a new blog..
1. Storage and Bandwidth: Make sure the hosting service offers enough storage and bandwidth for your blog's needs. Free services may have limitations on both, so choose one that fits your requirements.
2. Uptime Reliability: Check the uptime record of the service. A good hosting provider should offer at least 99.9% uptime to ensure your blog is available most of the time.
3. Speed: Look for a web host that offers fast loading times. Slow websites can negatively impact user experience and SEO.
4. Customer Support: Ensure that the free web hosting service provides some form of customer support, even if it’s just email or forum-based. This will be helpful in case you face any issues.
5. SSL Certificate: Security is important for your blog. Look for a service that provides a free SSL certificate, which helps to secure your website and improves SEO.
6. Customization Options: Make sure the platform allows you to customize your blog’s design and features. Some free services may restrict the use of plugins or themes.
7. Ads: Many free hosting services display ads on your site. Choose a service that doesn't place intrusive ads or, if they do, offers the option to remove them.
8. Backup and Restore: Ensure that the hosting service offers backup options so you can restore your blog in case of data loss.
9. Scalability: If you plan to expand your blog in the future, check if the hosting service allows easy upgrades to paid plans.
10. Domain Name: Free hosting services usually provide a subdomain (e.g., yourblog.example.com), but if you want a custom domain (yourblog.com), make sure the service allows domain mapping.

Is it okay to get SSL Certificate from 3rd party provider for my blog, if free hosting provider doesn't offer any SSL certificate?5. SSL Certificate: Security is important for your blog. Look for a service that provides a free SSL certificate, which helps to secure your website and improves SEO.
Because by hosting service provider charges for providing SSL certificate. Right now I am getting SSL certificate from https://www.sslforfree.com/ which is 90-day validity..
Any other better suggestions??

In most cases, a free SSL certificate provided by a reputable third-party provider is generally considered better than a free SSL certificate offered by a hosting service, as third-party options often have wider compatibility, more advanced security features, and are not tied to a single hosting provider, allowing for easier switching if needed.Netsurfer wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2025 7:35 amIs it okay to get SSL Certificate from 3rd party provider for my blog, if free hosting provider doesn't offer any SSL certificate?5. Here are the reasons that why a third-party SSL might be better for a domain:
• Wider compatibility across different platforms and browsers.
• Security standards: Third-party providers often focus solely on SSL security and may offer more advanced encryption options compared to some hosting providers.
However, you should seriously consider these points when choosing a third-party SSL provider for your domain:
• Ease of use: If your hosting provider seamlessly integrates the free SSL certificate setup process, it can be more convenient for beginners.
• Customer support: If you encounter issues with your SSL, your hosting provider's support team may be able to assist you more readily.
• Automatic renewal: Many third-party providers does not offer automated renewal features, minimizing the risk of your certificate expiring and causing security issues. Unlike the paid SSL, You need to renew them manually for free SSL from third party providers.

I strongly prefer getting SSL certificate (Free/Paid) from your host provider. If you are wish you can provider hosting provider who offer free SSL certificate if you are not willing to pay for SSL.
There are lot of free hosting service providers offering free SSL for websites hosted on their servers. All you need is to just Google, compare their features and make sure you pick the right hosting with good features suited for your blog.
Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion.. I think its better to go for the hosting provider who offers free SSL..
But still I insist you go for the paid hosting with SSL certificate instead of free hosting service.. Paid hosting offers more advantage than free hosting in terms of SEO..
